    2. Full physical assessment. Your assessment may include movement testing, strength testing, functional tasks, neurological screening where needed, and discussion of relevant imaging or medical information. Frequently Asked Questions

    Do I need a referral?

No. You do not need a GP referral for a private physiotherapy appointment at Wallan Physiotherapy Centre. You can book directly. A referral may be required if you are attending under Medicare, DVA, WorkCover, TAC or another funded pathway.

How long is the first appointment?

Your first appointment is a double appointment, which allows time for assessment, explanation and an initial treatment plan. We will discuss your symptoms, medical history, goals and relevant activity demands, then assess movement, strength and function as needed. Appointment length may vary depending on appointment type, so contact the clinic if you are unsure which booking is most appropriate.

    What should I bring?

Please bring any relevant referral letters, imaging or scan reports, specialist letters, operation notes, medication information, private health card, Medicare care plan paperwork, DVA details, or WorkCover/TAC claim information. Wear comfortable clothing that allows the area being assessed to be seen and moved.

Do you accept WorkCover, TAC, DVA, NDIS and Medicare care plans?

Yes. Wallan Physiotherapy Centre treats eligible WorkCover, TAC, DVA, NDIS and Medicare care plan patients. Medicare care plans must be arranged by your GP. TAC may help pay for physiotherapy in the first 90 days after a transport accident when treatment is for accident-related injuries and meets TAC requirements. After the initial 90-day period, further approval may be required. DVA treatment generally requires a valid referral and depends on card type and eligibility.

Can I use private health insurance?

Yes. If your private health insurance includes physiotherapy extras, you may be able to claim part of your appointment cost. Please bring your private health card. Your rebate depends on your insurer, policy and level of cover.

When should I see a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapy is particularly useful when pain or injury is affecting movement, strength, work, sport or everyday function, or when you need rehabilitation after injury or surgery.

Who should I see for sciatica?

A physiotherapist can assess sciatica or nerve-related leg pain, screen for signs that need medical review, and guide movement, load management and rehabilitation. Seek urgent medical review if symptoms include new bladder or bowel changes, saddle numbness, progressive leg weakness or severe worsening neurological symptoms.

Who should I see after surgery?

Physiotherapy is commonly used after orthopaedic surgery to help restore movement, strength, balance, walking, function and confidence. At Wallan Physiotherapy Centre, post-surgical rehabilitation may support recovery after knee, hip, shoulder or spinal surgery, including return to work, sport, golf and daily activity.

    Do you treat golf injuries?

Yes. We treat golf-related injuries and pain, including back pain, shoulder pain, golfer’s elbow, wrist pain, hip restriction, knee pain and foot or ankle symptoms. Andrew Gray has worked as a physiotherapist at the Australian Open golf tournament and with AIS golfers, bringing golf-specific clinical experience to local golfers.

Can you help me return to golf after injury or surgery?

Yes. We can help plan a graded return to golf after injury or surgery. This may include restoring mobility, strength, balance, rotation, walking tolerance and confidence, then gradually progressing golf-specific activity based on your recovery stage and goals.

    Do you treat cycling-related pain?

Yes. We treat cycling-related pain and injuries, including neck pain, back pain, knee pain, hip pain, Achilles symptoms, foot pain and overuse injuries. Physiotherapy may help by assessing contributing factors, training load, strength, mobility and relevant riding-related aggravators.

    Do you provide bike fitting?

Routine bike fitting is not promoted as a standalone service. However, where cycling position or bike setup appears to be contributing to pain, relevant bike-related factors may be considered as part of the physiotherapy assessment and treatment plan.

    Do you provide home visits?

Most appointments are conducted at our Wallan clinic, where we have the best environment for assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. Limited home visits may be considered in selected circumstances, mainly early post-surgical or post-hospital situations where temporary mobility restriction makes clinic attendance impractical.

Can I arrange a home visit after surgery?

Possibly. Limited home visits may be considered after surgery or hospital discharge if clinic attendance is temporarily unrealistic and the visit is clinically appropriate. Availability depends on location, therapist availability and individual circumstances. Contact the clinic to discuss your situation.

Are routine back, neck or sports injury appointments conducted onsite?

Yes. Routine back pain, neck pain, sports injury, golf injury, cycling-related pain and exercise rehabilitation appointments are conducted onsite at Wallan Physiotherapy Centre. Clinic-based care provides the best setting for assessment, treatment, exercise progression and rehabilitation planning.
